Hosted by artist and art historian Rebecca Chamberlain, the podcast brings together conversations with artists, art historians, writers, curators, and others whose lives have been shaped by art. Each episode offers an opportunity to look beyond the familiar facts and explore the personal connections, discoveries, influences, and curiosities that make art meaningful.

At the heart of The Art of Seeing is a simple question:

What does it mean to really see a work of art?

A painting can be beautiful, mysterious, unsettling, or immediately familiar—but what happens when we slow down and look more closely? What stories emerge? How does knowing an artist's life or the history surrounding a work change our understanding? And why do certain works remain with us long after we have left the museum?

Through conversations with fascinating voices from the art world, The Art of Seeing explores these questions and more.

Each episode is an intimate conversation rather than a formal lecture. Guests share the works and artists that have inspired them, the moments that changed how they look at art, and the discoveries that have shaped their journeys.

We'll explore subjects ranging from art history and artistic influence to museums, travel, literature, mythology, and the experience of encountering art in person.

The Art of Seeing is also the beginning of a larger exploration of art, history, and place.

As the project grows, it will encompass art-historical writing, conversations, museum and exhibition experiences, and explorations of the places where art and history come together. Travel is an important part of this journey—the opportunity to encounter works of art in the places for which they were created and to experience the museums, architecture, landscapes, and cultural histories that surround them.
